Instructor Training

We are pleased that our school has a 5 hour Instructor training manual that is divided in two parts:

1) Theory: 3 hours are spent with each instructor in learning and acquiring basic & effective coaching skills!

2) Application: 2 hours are spent in learning and standardizing Dance techniques, methods and applications.

No Instructors are allowed to teach under our program unless they have run through our Teachers Application training!

Your First Class

Your first class should always be a place of discovery! Not only in Salsa but in any field. Dont come with a mentality of fear: "How am I going to keep up?" or "Can I do this?" We as instructors know that there is a very good reason why you are in a beginner class! So dont waste your energy in fear but rather in being open to new discoveries. Remember you are not the only one there to learn!

Always try wearing comfortable clothing. Something you can move in! Ladies high heels are an asset but if you have spent your enitre day at work in them then ditch them and go with comfort for the first Level.

Salsa is a dance that will test your patience, your communication skills, and even your negotiation skills. Sometimes you will smile other times frustration will creep in, it will bring out the best in your health and your movement, it will interact your creative side as well as your technical side, but no other feeling will prevail more than the feeling of "JOY".

On1 vs On2

If you have not noticed by now our classes are divided into LA (On1) and NY(On2) classes.

What are these different styles: Well! On1 is danced on the first beat of the Salsa music and follows a natural progression of a 'bar'. The On2 is danced in the same manner but rather on the 2nd beat of the music. So quite simply if you know where the '1' is in the music you know where the '2' is. You guessed it right after the '1'. It all boils down to the first step in Salsa: "Do I step forward on the first beat or second".

It doesnt matter! Quite often dancers get so caught up in which style is better. When i watch dancers on the floor I am amazed at how well they are leading and sometimes even when they are not. I never pay attention to wether he/she was dancing On1 or On2, meaning: What matter's is not which musicality you are dancing to but wether you are good as a Lead and/or Follower, Is your partner comfortable being lead by you? These are above all the most important elements of the dance, after which everything else is your preference rather than a better choice. Choose a style and focus on becoming a better Lead and/or Follower.

My Advice: Choose one and stick to it!
